Exploring Jaipur

Hawa Mahal at 7am

Namasté 🙂

My exploration of Jaipur began with an early morning walk to this enormously beautiful structure — Hawa Mahal. It was built so that the Women of the Royal Household could observe the street festivals without being seen from the outside. This honeycomb-like structure has 953 Jharokhas(Windows) and is an effortless blend of Rajputana and Mughal style Architecture.

Amer Fort and Palace at Amber

Just a min away from Hawa Mahal is the Badi Chaupar. You can take the local Ac bus from here to Amer Fort. This bus takes you through the city crossing the famous Johari Bazaar and drops you at Amer which is 8km away in just Rs.11/-

Amer Fort at 8.15 am

The Amer Fort or Amer Kila as they call it was built in the 17th Century by the Kachhawa Raja Man Singh 1. The Amer Palace has 4 Levels- Diwan-e-Aam, or “Hall of Public Audience”, the Diwan-e-Khas, or “Hall of Private Audience”, the Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace), or Jai Mandir, and the Sukh Niwas- The Artificial Cool wind room.

Pss.. This is the fort shown in the Background for the ‘Mohe Rang Do laal’ song in Bajirao Mastani.

On the Left- Kesar Kari Garden
Ganesh Pol

Ganesh Pol (Gate) is the entrance to Amer Palace. This beauty is a royal mix of Rajput and Mughal style Architecture. Above this gate is the Suhag Mandir- For women to watch functions and meetings held at Diwan-i-aam.

City Palace- Don’t leave Jaipur without visiting this Palace twice. Just don’t. The amount of detailing that has gone into creating everything here is unreal.

Pritam Nivas: Google it. I’m bored. :p

The inner courtyard of the Jaipur City Palace has 4 doorways, each representing a season and dedicated to a Hindu God. The Green doorway, represents Spring, and is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The lotus doorway represents winter. The peacock doorway represents monsoon and is dedicated to lord Kartikeya.

Albert Museum: Later.
